Learning environments should be dynamic, real-time incubators of human interactions. Learning itself is a compelling social negotiation that fascinates me. The most consistently challenging and therefore most interesting teaching moments arise at the intersection of public [mis]perception, media-driven memes and the sometimes emotionally charged preconceived notions that individuals couple to a nearly ubiquitous pre-determined scientific naiveté, all potentially in collision with established scientific theory and practice. This is the landscape that provides the richest and most robust opportunities to get to the core values of critical thinking, reasoned discourse, and the ability to question one’s own understanding of the world.
